Day 3b From a big city to a big/little resort

A short plane flight from Ho Chi Minh City to Da Nang.  A short/modern history of Da Nang.  Again, if you are my age, you remember Da Nang from the Vietnam/American War.  In the central part of the country it was not only a huge R and R location for American GI's but THE busiest airport in the world, averaging 2,600 aircraft operations per day at the height of the war.

Now, it looks like many parts of the Hawaiian Islands.  Huge timeshares and resorts on the South China Sea.  The rich of Southeast Asia play here now.  We are actually staying in Hoi An as smaller resort community north of Da Nang, a bit more relaxed.

A nice Old Quarter, very touristy, but walkable.  Buddhist, Japanese, Chinese and Vietnamese influence here. Lots of candle lanterns all around, a great little river runs through with lanterns on the boats and floating on the water, very nice.

Lots of couples posing for wedding photos.

Couldn't resist.  Above the sign are bottles of liquor
with snakes in them
